Fibre Artist
Artist Statement:
Making paper connects me to the land, binding the material with the spiritual. During the last six months walking in the Tarkine Wilderness of North West Tasmania has renewed my creative energy and inspired these works.
As a papermaker and artist, the process of observing, collecting and experimenting with fibres inspires me to engage in learning new ways of working with fibres; to tell a story, recall beautiful places i have been and memorable experiences i would like to share.
My work uses both traditional techniques of forming the handmade paper sheet and experimental methods of pulp painting. It also incorporates Tasmanian plant fibres, ochres and dyed cotton fibres.
The pulp painter takes traditional papermaking methods and expands the possibilities of decorative mark making with coloured fibres. The artwork produced has painterly effects with layered and textured fibres.
My Intention for this work is to re-create for the viewer an experience of a place, with a fusion of memories and collected Tasmanian fibres.
